Struggling to apply your false eyelashes? This quick guide video will have you applying falsies like a pro in no time at all.
A Step by Step Guide: How to Easily Apply False Eyelashes
Here at FalseEyelashes.co.uk we understand that the eyelash application process can appear difficult and slightly daunting, especially if you're a beginner! Not to worry though, we have created a step by step YouTube video to guide you through applying false lashes with minimal mess, effort and fuss! We have also gone into further detail in this post, ensuring every single step is covered.
First things first, you will need a few important tools and products for a perfect application. To apply your false eyelashes, you will need the following:
- Your personal choice of false eyelashes – we used the Lash Unlimited lashes in style No. 8
- A false lash adhesive – we used DUO Strip Lash Adhesive in Clear Tone but you can use any eyelash glue such as a brush on adhesive as a quicker and easier alternative
- Tweezers or a lash applicator – we swear by the Pinky Goat Lash Applicator
- Cotton Buds – any cotton buds will do, but if possible opt for ones with a thinner tip than normal, for the ultimate precision when applying the lash adhesive
- Small scissors – to carefully trim the lashes down if needed
- A mirror – one that provides a close up view of your eye will be the most helpful, but any standard, vanity-style mirror will work
- Kitchen roll/tin foil/tissue – to use as a surface for the adhesive
Step one: select your lashes
Selecting lashes that suit your needs is the initial step when it comes to applying false eyelashes. Picking a pair you not only like, but that suits your eye shape and size, will make the application process a great deal easier, and they will also compliment your eyes a lot more.
If you have quite small eyes, then you’re best opting for a lash style that features a shorter lash band for a more comfortable fit. The House of Lashes Mini Collection consists of scaled down versions of their most popular lash styles making them suited to those with smaller eyes that are looking for a natural enhancement. Style Boudoir Mini boasts longer, denser lashes in the centre which works to open up the eye, giving the illusion of a larger appearance.
Hooded eyes are best accentuated with a lash style that is longer in the centre, as it works to open up the eye. KoKo Lashes in style Misha boast a full, wispy appearance with increased length in the middle of the lash band, making them a top choice for hooded eyes.
If your eyes are more rounded and fairly large, then you can get away with numerous different lash styles, it simply depends on which look you prefer. If you like an elongated appearance, then choose a pair of falsies with a graduated length, such as the ever-popular Ardell Demi Wispies. If however, you prefer the doe-eyed look then a long, fluffy lash style such as Lilly Lashes in style Miami will provide a wide-eyed finish.
For a super subtle lash look, the Eylure Naturals Collection offers some delicate designs that add slight length and soft volume for a discreet enhancement. Style 020 is a bestseller, and this style is available in a standard pack and a multipack.
If you love drama when it comes to your lashes, then we have an impressive selection to choose from. For extreme density, KoKo Lashes signature style Queen B adds show stopping length Doll Beauty lash in style Jasmine.
Step two: remove the lashes from the tray
Once you have selected your choice of lashes, apply a small amount of adhesive to a piece of kitchen roll, tin foil or tissue. Then, carefully remove the lashes from their packaging using a pair of tweezers or a lash applicator. Gently peel one lash at a time from the tray, being extra careful not to damage or tear the lashes. We suggest taking your time with this step.
Step three: measure the lashes and trim them down
When you have removed one lash from the tray, holding it with the tweezers or lash applicator measure the lash up against your natural lashes and lash line, to see whether they will fit comfortably. If they appear to be slightly too long, then use the scissors to trim them from the outer corner.
Step four: use a cotton bud to apply the adhesive to the lash band
Applying the adhesive is the next and all important step. Use the cotton bud to pick up a small amount of adhesive from the kitchen roll or surface that you applied it to earlier on. Apply a thin, even layer along the lash band and wait approximately 45 seconds for this to dry and go tacky. This will allow for a better hold and it also prevents the lashes from moving around too much, keeping them firmly in place.
Step five: apply the lashes and adjust accordingly
Place a mirror onto a table, and ensure it is at a lower level so you can easily see your eyes clearly. Using the lash applicator or tweezers, place the lash directly on top of the lash line, in the centre of your eye.
Use the lash applicator to secure the lash in place, positioning it as close to the lash line as possible. Focus on pressing the lashes down in the inner and outer corner of the lash line, securing it into place. Continue to adjust until you are happy with the position of the lash, and use the applicator to gently squeeze the false lashes to your natural lashes for a flawless blend.
Step six: to complete the look, apply eyeliner along the lash line
This last step is optional, but we recommend applying a stroke of eyeliner along the lash line, to conceal any adhesive that may be on show, and complete the look adding extra definition and resulting in an ultra-glam finish.
