GET TO KNOW: Meet Charlotte Bird

Tell us a bit about yourself...

I’m a 24-year-old MUA/HR Assistant, during the weekdays I work in the Selfridges Head Office… I may or may not spend the majority of my lunch breaks in the Beauty Hall. But weekends are reserved for my true passion - freelance makeup and creating content for my Instagram and YouTube Channel 😊

So Charlotte, where did it all begin for you as a MUA?

I actually started my makeup journey pretty late, it wasn’t until I was around 20/21 that I became passionate about it. I’m totally self-taught and just learnt through watching makeup tutorials on YouTube. Eventually, my friends told me I should create an IG page, and I haven’t looked back since. I’ve only been freelancing for the past year, it started with my friends asking for it to be done and then as they recommended me my client base grew!

What has been your career highlight so far?

A recent highlight for me was reaching 10K on IG and being reposted by @anastasiabeverlyhills and @shophudabeauty. It’s just the best feeling, knowing that brands appreciate your work! I’ve also really enjoyed doing freelance makeup on brides, there’s nothing better than making someone feel beautiful on one of the most important days of their lives!

What advice would you give someone who aspires to be a MUA?

Practice, practice and more practice! Honestly, people always ask me how you can learn and improve your makeup skills and for me, it was the repetition of applying it, watching and following tutorials and just playing around with makeup. If you’re passionate about it, just put in some time and energy into it. Don’t be embarrassed to create an IG page, everyone is in the beginning, but it’s a great way to advertise and pick up new clients.

Who are your Top 3 Instagrammers?

Ooh, I love so many, so this is a tough one! My top 3 are probably:

Amrezy – she’s always been my ultimate fave

Desi Perkins – obsessed with her IG and YouTube

Jamie Genevieve – my fave UK gal, I got the chance to meet her and she’s the best!

Lastly, what are your go-to false eyelashes?

My go-to lashes are always Lilly Lashes, to me, they look the most dramatic but also the most natural, I can’t tell you how many times people think I’m wearing lash extensions!

My favourite Lilly Lashes styles are Mykonos, Miami and Arika!
