Are Magnetic Lashes Safe?

We get a lot of questions about magnetic lashes, and understandably so. They are a newer product on the market, and people want to know if they are safe before they try them. So, are magnetic lashes safe?

The short answer is yes; magnetic lashes are safe. Lash designers make them with magnets that are strong enough to hold the lashes in place, but not so strong that they will cause any damage to your natural lashes or eyelids.

Many people find that their natural lashes grow stronger and healthier when they switch to magnetic lashes because this type of lash does not expose them to harsh chemicals in some glues and adhesives.

If you're concerned about the safety of magnetic lashes, we recommend that you try them for yourself and see how you feel. We KNOW you will be pleasantly surprised.

What are Magnetic Lashes Made of?

You can choose magnetic strip lashes without needing a magnetic liner or fake eyelashes that need magnetic eyeliner to work.

Suppose you buy the sandwich variety of magnetic lash. In that case, you won't need adhesive as the strips stick to each other using the magnets above and below your natural lashline, so it's best to check which variety suits your lifestyle.

The lashes are usually made of synthetic material, such as nylon, which makes them soft and flexible. Using synthetic material also means that they are often lighter than regular false lashes, so they are less likely to cause any damage to your natural lashes.

Here's a list of our favourite sandwich magnetic strip lash:

  1. Ardell Magnetic Lashes Double Demi Wispies
  2. Ardell Magnetic Lashes Double 110
  3. Ardell Magnetic Wispies Single Lash

We recommend trying our individual magnetic lashes if you're looking for a more natural look. They are applied one at a time and give a more subtle look, but they need magnetic eyeliner to work correctly.

What is Magnetic Eyelash Liner made of?

Magnetic Liner

The magnetic eyelash liner is made with iron oxide, a naturally-occurring element safe for skin use. It is also found in food and cosmetics.

Iron oxide is what gives magnetic eyeliner its black colour. It is applied like regular liquid eyeliner and helps to hold the lashes in place.

We love Magnetic Liner, and here's a list of our favourites:

  1. Lola Lashes Magnetic Liner Black
  2. Lola Lashes Hybrid Magnetic Liner
  3. Ardell Magnetic Liquid Liner Black

How to Apply Magnetic Lashes?

Now that you know that magnetic lashes are safe, you might wonder how to apply them. Applying magnetic lashes is actually very simple.

First, you must apply the magnetic liner to your lash line like any other liquid liner. We recommend using a thin layer of liner and letting it dry for a few seconds before applying the lashes.

Next, place the upper strip of lashes on top of your natural lashes, aligning it with the lash line. Then take the bottom strip of lashes and place it underneath your natural lashes, again aligning it with the lash line.

The magnets will automatically connect, holding the lashes in place. If they are not binding, try moving them around a bit until you find the sweet spot.

And that's it! You now have beautiful, full eyelashes that will last all day. You can read more about the application of magnetic lashes here if you want to.

Do I need to use mascara when fixing my magnetic lashes?

It's a good idea to apply some mascara to your natural lashes before putting on the magnetic lashes, as the lashes will hold better and give a more natural look.

If you're using our sandwich lashes, you won't need mascara, as the top strip will adhere to your natural lashes.

Here's a list of our favourite mascaras:

  1. Rimmel Wonderful Mascara 001 Black
  2. Max Factor Lash Crown Black
  3. SWEED Pro Lash Lift Mascara
  4. Max Factor Rise and Shine

Can I use magnetic lashes with other makeup products?

Yes, you can use magnetic lashes with other makeup products without any problem. In fact, we often recommend using them with other products to create different looks.

For example, you can use magnetic lashes with eyeshadow to create a smoky eye look. Or, you can use them with eyeliner to create a cat-eye look. The possibilities are excitingly endless.

Do I need to take special care of my magnetic lashes?

No, you don't need to take special care of your magnetic lashes. They are made to be worn and reused multiple times.

However, we recommend you store them in the box they came in or an airtight container you like when you're not using them. This will help to keep them clean and dust-free.

We also recommend that you deep clean your lashes every few weeks. This will help remove any build-up of dirt or makeup and keep them looking new.

Tips on Keeping your Magnetic Lashes Clean and your Eyes Healthy

  1. Don't share magnetic lashes with other people. Much like not sharing your toothbrush, it's a good idea to keep your lashes to yourself to avoid any bacterial infections.
  2. Keep the box for your lashes clean and closed. This will help to keep them dust-free and protected from any bacteria that might be floating around.
  3. Refrain from storing your magnetic lashes in very hot places. Heat can damage magnets and cause them to lose their strength. So, keeping them in a cool, dry place is best.
  4. If your eyes become irritated, stop using the lashes. If you notice any redness, swelling, or itching, discontinue use immediately and consult a doctor if necessary. These could be signs of an allergic reaction.
  5. Don't sleep in your magnetic strip lashes or magnetic liner. We know you're tired, but taking them off before bed is essential to give your eyes a break.

How to Remove Magnetic Lashes?

Removing your magnetic lashes is just as easy as applying them. Simply take the top strip of lashes off first, followed by the bottom strip.

If you're using a magnetic liner, you can remove it with a makeup remover, coconut oil, or a recommended liner-removing solution, as listed above.

What else do you need to know?

You should make sure whatever lashes you buy suit your eye shape. Here's a quick guide to recognising the shape of your eye.

Once you know the shape of your eye, you can find the best style of the lash to compliment it. In general, if you have hooded eyes, you'll want a shorter, more natural-looking lash.

Almond eyes look great with almost any style of lash. And if you have round eyes, long and dramatic lashes will help to create a more oval-shaped appearance.

Monolid eyes need a little more help in the lash department. This is because there's often little lid space to work around. So, we recommend a style of lash that's long and flared out at the ends.

This will open up your eyes and create the illusion of a giant lid. Trust us; it works like a charm.

Check out our shape-finder blog if you're still undecided on what style of fake eyelashes to go for or which type of magnetic lash is right for you. It only takes a few minutes to read and gives you tailored recommendations based on your eyes.
